In Bezel's exclusive interview, we sit down with Hood to explore her introduction to the world of mechanical watches, her thoughts on the current landscape of women in horology, as well as her favorite watch in her growing collection.
Born in a refugee camp in Sudan after her parents narrowly escaped the country’s civil war – self-made entrepreneur Sara Hood is a CEO, television correspondent, devoted advocate, lifestyle influencer, and a mother of two children.
In our exclusive interview, we sat down with Hood to explore her introduction to the world of mechanical watches, her thoughts on the current landscape of women in horology, as well as her favorite watch in her growing collection.
Bezel: How did you get into watches?
SH: My introduction to watches came by way of investing in Bezel. I’d been interested them for a while now, but always found myself intimidated by the buying process.
Bezel: What was it about the watch market that intimidated you?
SH: Traditionally the watch buying experience hasn’t been inclusive to or made to feel comfortable by women. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a store and made to feel as if I didn’t belong. I think it’s important to educate novices to create a new class of collectors.Traditionally the watch buying experience hasn’t been inclusive to or made to feel comfortable by women. Bezel: What was your first watch and what's the story behind it?
SH: I’m obsessed with my Rolex, which was gifted to me after a successful IPO and birthday. It’s the most sentimental piece of jewelry I own. It’s a reminder of all I've overcome, who I currently am, and who I’m becoming.
Bezel: What's your favorite watch in your collection and why?
SH: I've got a one watch collection, so that would have to be my Rolex, as well. It’s my first, but I’m excited to build a collection. I’m not only an investor, but a customer as well. Being a part of Bezel has built my confidence because I’m educated on my purchase and also having fun doing it.
Bezel: Can you share three watches in your Bezel Wants right now?
SH: These have definitely been on my mind lately:
1. Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 “Tiffany” Ref. 126000-0006
2. Rolex Explorer Ref. 124270-0001
3. Rolex Datejust 41 Ref. 126333-0010
Bezel: Why do you continue to enjoy collecting watches?
SH: I really enjoy hunting down rare finds. What would've been a frustrating experience is now fun with Bezel. I look for unique, distinct, and classic watches that will stay with me. Watches that can be worn on red carpets, on TV, and in the content I create daily. Above all else, I look forward to the day I can gift my watches to my children.
