The dive watch category is one of the most popular genres of the luxury watch market. Since the 1950s, top brands have produced timepieces that can be worn in the most extreme diving conditions imaginable.

These useful luxury watches are loved by diving professionals and leisure divers. They’re characterized by high water resistance, legible dials, and a rotating bezel for tracking time spent underwater. Dive watches are also quite robust and are built to be extremely durable. While diving watches are suitable for life underwater, many models are fashionable enough to be used as elegant sports or dress watches.

The diving watch world is vast, with many great options to consider. This post highlights the best luxury dive watches for anyone looking to buy one in 2025.

1. Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner is arguably the most popular timepiece in the dive watch category. This isn’t particularly surprising since this high-end tool watch is also one of the oldest diving watches ever made. Rolex released the first Submariner timepiece in 1953 as a specialist tool watch for professionals.

While there were other diving watches on the market then, the Submariner was the first to be water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters. The flagship model also came fitted with a 60-minute rotating bezel to keep track of time spent underwater and a luminous dial to see even in dark undersea environments.

Although the Submariner is a functional tool watch, this timepiece is versatile enough to be worn for other occasions thanks to its sophisticated minimalism. This elegant aesthetics is the reason why the Submariner was favored by everyone’s favorite super spy, James Bond, who wore the Submariner in at least 8 outings.

Rolex produces the Submariner in a traditional stainless steel casing. However, a few versions are available in 18-karat gold cases and bracelets. Popular Rolex Submariner watches have cool nicknames such as Hulk, Kermit, and Smurf due to their Bezel and dial color.

2. Rolex Sea-Dweller

The Rolex Sea-Dweller is a top-class dive watch known for its strong build and durability. Rolex made this watch in 1967 specifically for professional divers. It built on the legacy of the Rolex Submariner, which had already been a hit with divers.

The Sea-Dweller became popular in the dive watch category really fast, thanks to its great depth range. The watch was capable of reaching extreme depths due to its helium-escape valve, an innovative idea that prevented damage caused by trapped helium gas. The Sea-Dweller could go as deep as 1,220 meters (4,000 feet) from the onset, going with divers to places no watch had reached.

Now, modern Sea-Dwellers go even deeper. Some models, like the Deepsea, can reach depths of up to 3,900 meters (12,800 feet). Then there’s the Deepsea Challenge, a Sea-Dweller that is water-resistant to a whopping depth of 11,000 m. The Sea-Dweller collection has some of the most robust dive watches ever made.

3. OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M

The OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M is a saturation diving watch launched by Omega in 1997. It is based on the Omega Seamaster 300 collection released several decades earlier. Although both watches have the same depth rating( 300 m or 984 ft), the Seamaster Diver 300M is a more specialized watch, thanks to its helium escape valve.

It was the first Omega timepiece with a helium escape valve. This feature popularized by the Rolex Submariner makes the Seamaster Diver watch capable of Saturation diving. Many models of the Seamaster Diver 300m also feature complications, including chronographs and GMT function. These features give them even more utility beyond simply telling the time underwater. While the Seamaster 300 is renowned for its vintage design, the Diver 300M watch has a notably modern design characterized by curved edges, broad skeletonized hands, and a striking wave-like pattern on the dial. Omega has released Seamaster Diver 300M watches in Stainless steel, titanium, gold, or ceramic material options.

4. OMEGA Seamaster 300

Swiss Watch brand Omega has been producing Seamaster watches since 1948. This makes it the oldest collection in the watchmaker’s catalog that is still in production today. But the Seamaster hasn’t always been a diving watch. The earliest versions of this watch were merely versatile men’s watches with great water resistance. That changed in 1957 when Omega introduced the first diving watch to the collection known as the Seamaster 300. The name of this watch is a reference to its depth rating, which is 300 meters.

The Seamaster 300 is one of the most popular options for those looking to buy a diver’s watch with a vintage feel. Despite being such an old timepiece, Omega has kept the design of the models in the collection largely the same ever since they were launched. Consequently, even modern Seamaster 300 watches still have a 1950s or 60s feel. The Seamaster 300 comes in a standard stainless steel case with a black dial for the traditional models. However, Omega has also released gold, two-toned, titanium, and even platinum versions of this watch.

5. OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M is a modern re-interpretation of the Seamaster 300 watch. The collection was launched in 2005, which means it is one of the youngest collections in Omega’s catalog.

Unlike the older Seamster watches (Seamaster 300 and Diver 300M), the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is built to be water-resistant to a depth of 600 meters (1969 feet). However, it shares a feature with the 300M watch, which is the helium escape valve, which significantly improves its durability.

In addition to the standard three-hand models, Omega has released chronograph, and GMT watches for this collection. They’re available in a wide range of material options, from stainless steel to gold, titanium, and ceramic.

In 2022, Omega released an even more advanced version of this watch. The Omega Planet Ocean Ultra Deep 6000M was built to be water-resistant to a depth of 6,000 meters (19,685 ft), making it one of the most powerful diving watches on the market.

6. Tudor Pelagos

The Tudor Pelagos is a professional diving watch from Rolex’s sister company, Tudor. The Swiss watchmaker released this timepiece in 2012, and it was named after the Ocean or Sea. This watch is capable of diving to depths of up to 500 meters (1640) and is even suitable for saturation diving thanks to its helium escape valve.

The functionality is impressive for such an affordable timepiece. Earlier models of this watch were fitted with ETA calibers, but this has now been replaced by chronometer-certified in-house movements since 2015.

Tudor Pelagos watches come in a  42mm titanium casing with a unidirectional bezel in black or blue color, depending on the color of the dial. Although rare for a diving watch, the use of titanium for its casing makes this timepiece both lightweight and durable.

Tudor Pelagos watches feature a patented fold-over clap on their three-piece titanium bracelet, The clasp will lengthen and shorten depending on the environmental pressure. The timepiece also has diving extensions that make it possible to adjust the bracelet for a perfect fit.

7. Tudor Black Bay

The Black Bay is a flagship Tudor model released in 2012. It is also one of the most successful watches from this manufacturer. This timepiece has a vintage design inspired by the Tudor Submariner watches, which made their debut in 1954, a year after the Rolex Submariner hit the market. Its vintage-inspired design is one of the main selling points of this timepiece.

The Black Bay’s style is a perfect blend of retro charm and modern versatility. The watch has sporty dress watch aesthetics that make it elegant for every occasion. As one of the most popular watches from this watchmaker, Tudor has released several variants of the Black Bay timepiece, including several versions with a chronograph or GMT function, which is unusual for a diving watch. The Black Bay collection offers models in bronze, gold, ceramic, or sterling silver.  All models are designed to be waterproof to a depth of 200 meters (660 feet).

8. Panerai Submersible

The Submersible is a robust dive watch produced by Italian luxury watch manufacturer Panerai. The company has been making diving watches for the Italian navy since the 1930s, starting with the Radiomir. This timepiece would eventually evolve into the Lumior and, finally, the Submersible by the mid-1950s.

For a long time, the Submersible and other Panerai models were only produced for the military. The watchmaker only started releasing these watches to the general public in the 1990s. The Submersible is characterized by a unidirectional rotating bezel, which is a common feature in many dive watches. It has a water resistance of up to 300 meters (984 ft), which makes it capable of some serious diving.

All models of this watch have a robust design with cushion-shaped case in stainless steel, titanium, ceramic, bronze, or carbon material options. But more than just robust and functional watches, Submersible watches are also stylish enough for everyday wear.

9. Breitling Superocean

The Breitling brand has been making timepieces for professional divers since 1957. The first one produced was the Superocean, which has since evolved into a comprehensive collection with several timepieces and is one of the most popular watches by Swiss watchmakers.

Standard Superocean models are water-resistant to a depth of about 300 meters (984 feet). However, the watchmaker makes some even more powerful watches, such as the Superocean Automatic 46, designed to withstand water pressures at depths of up to 2,000 meters (6562 feet). While not all versions of the Superocean are suitable for saturation diving, Breitling has released some models with helium escape valves, which makes them well-suited for professional divers.

For the longest time, Breitling timepieces were only available in stainless steel. This changed in 2022 when the watchmaker began producing watches with bronze and red gold cases. The newer generation of Breitling Superocean watches also have a standard water resistance of up to 300 meters (984 ft).

10. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms

The Fifty Fathoms collection is a line of classy but sporty three-hand diving watches produced by Blancpain. The Swiss watch manufacturer introduced the collection in 1953, and it has since evolved into one of the watchmaker’s most popular timepieces. The watch was initially produced for the French Navy but was later released to the general public in the decades that followed.

Although the rotating diving bezel was popularized by the Rolex Submariner, Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms was the first timepiece with this feature since it was released about a year earlier than the Submariner.

As the name suggests, watches in this collection are built to be water-resistant to a depth of fifty fathoms, which is equivalent to a 300-foot depth. This was an impressive rating at the time this watch was released. The current collection of Fifty Fathom watches includes both steel tool watches similar to the original and elegant new editions with precious metal casing and dressier aesthetics.

11. IWC Aquatimer

The Aquatimer is a popular diving watch produced by IWC Schaffhausen. The timepiece was released in 1967 in response to the growing popularity of the dive watch category. The earliest Aquatimer timepieces were water-resistant to a depth of 200 meters. Today, the collection has models built to be water-resistant to a depth of 2000 meters. IWC also makes an Aquatimer watch with a chronograph complication and perpetual calendar.

The Aquatimer is based on IWC’s innovative approach to dive watch functionality. A defining feature is the IWC-patented SafeDive system, which integrates an internal and external rotating bezel for precise dive time tracking. The internal bezel, operated via an external crown or ring, ensures added safety by preventing accidental adjustments.

Initially, titanium was IWC’s favored material for Aquatimer watches. However, more recent IWC Aquatimer models are made of stainless steel. The stainless steel variants feature a more conventional diving bezel design without the traditional internal rin.g

12. Tag Heuer Aquaracer

Tag Heuer’s Aquaracer is a family of diving watches with a sporty but robust aesthetic. They have a contemporary design, which makes them popular with young watch enthusiasts and fashion-conscious dive watch lovers. The Aquaracer joined Tag Heuer’s catalog in 2004, which makes it a relatively young collection. However, the collection’s design was inspired by older nautical watches from the 1970s - particularly the Ref 844 timepiece, which was released in 1978.

Top models in the Aquaracer collection today are built to be water-resistant to a depth of 1,000 meters (3,281 ft), which makes them suitable for professional diving. However, most of the standard models only offer a 200 to 300-meter water resistance. Most models have a standard three-hand design with time-only functionality and a unidirectional rotating bezel for monitoring the dive time. A few Aquaracer watches also have a chronograph complication.
