Menta Watches’ Adam Golden is among the most well-respected dealers in today’s watch-collecting landscape, continually offering a considered assortment of compelling pieces across a wide variety of price points, and documenting the journey via his YouTube channel. Naturally, he’s got great taste, too. With this in mind, we tasked the Miami-based dealer with creating a curated selection of his favorite watches on Bezel, including picks from Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, and more.

Iconic as the day is long, the Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman" exists within a league of its own.

Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” Ref. 6239

Given the price point at which examples trade, I’d be remiss if I described the “Paul Newman” Daytona as an across-the-board must-have, but for dedicated Daytona collectors, an exotic dial-fitted reference 6239 is by all means an essential collection cornerstone. Between its rarity, the beauty of its iconic aesthetics, and its significance to watch collecting culture as a whole, you just can’t beat it.

"If it's good enough for NASA astronauts, it'll likely meet your needs and then some."

Omega Speedmaster Professional “Moonwatch” Ref. 3590.50 or 145.022

Owning a piece of history, and one of the best chronographs ever made, at that, doesn’t necessarily have to break the bank. Case in point, Omega’s Speedmaster Professional “Moonwatch.” If it’s good enough for NASA astronauts, it’ll likely meet your needs and then some.

When collectors are looking to go vintage, I’ll usually point them in the direction of the reference 145.022. But if they’re after something slightly more modern, they can’t go wrong with the reference 3590.50. Aged tritium dial-fitted examples are especially compelling for the money.

Offered in a number of different configurations, there's something for everyone in the world of Day-Date collecting.

Rolex Day-Date “President” Ref. 18038 or 1803

Every serious collector should own a Rolex Day-Date at some point along their journey. It’s truly a timeless classic, and few other pieces have quite as much cachet, both in and outside of the watch-collecting world. If you’ve got it, flaunt it, right?

For vintage collectors, my recommendation would have to be the reference 1803, given the role it’s played in developing the complicated collection’s renown. For those searching for a more recently produced equivalent, I’d advise opting for a single or double quickset reference 18038.

Straightforward excellence–you can't beat a no-date Submariner.

Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 or 14060

Many collectors like to refer to the no-date Submariner as the “white t-shirt” of watches, and for good reason. It’s just one of those pieces that’s endlessly versatile and ready for whatever comes its way.

Matte and gilt dial-fitted examples of the vintage reference 5513 are some of my personal favorites, but the reference 14060 is a great choice for experienced and budding collectors alike who want something classically styled but still able to withstand the rigors of everyday wear.

References 565, 3960, and 96 Calatravas–each offered by Golden over the years.

Patek Philippe Calatrava

There has been no shortage of great Patek Philippe Calatravas throughout its nearly century-long history to date, so I’ll have to recommend the collection as a whole instead of a specific reference.

With so many different dials, case sizes, lug shapes, and more, finding a Calatrava that really resonates with your tastes on a personal level is more than doable. Whether dressed up or dressed down, it’s just one of those watches that makes you feel like a million bucks, no matter how much you spend.
